Last Hummingbird of the year?

>> Thursday, October 4, 2007

As it turned out this might have been the last two hummingbirds I will see this year.

This photo was taken near the end of August. Since refilling and hanging the two feeders two weeks ago I have only seen one hummingbird.

What determines when hummingbirds migrate is the length of daylight so my guess is somewhere around the third week in September is when the days are short enough to trigger their instinct. I will keep at least one of the feeders up to feed any that may be passing through.
